Emergency procedure: First aid: 🩸 Stop the bleeding
🩹 How to apply a bandage?
Cover the wound with clean cloth or sterile material.
Place something absorbent on top (e.g., gauze, more clean cloth).
Wrap firmly with more cloth to maintain direct pressure.
⚠️ Do not use paper — it may disintegrate and contaminate the wound.
Apply a 2nd bandage
If bleeding continues, apply a second bandage on top of the first.
⚠️ Do not remove the first bandage, even if soaked.
Restrict blood flow to wound
As a last resort, restrict blood flow by either:
Manual pressure on the supplying artery (e.g., with your fingers, fist, knee). Try to maintain consistent pressure.
Using a belt or tourniquet above the wound (between the wound and heart).
Write down the time at which you restricted blood flow.
⚠️ Important warnings:
Only use arterial restriction as last resort – it can cause permanent damage. After ~45 minutes, the limb is at serious risk of amputation.
Only release pressure under medical supervision. Otherwise you can release clots into the bloodstream, risking stroke or embolism.
